Satie’s Journey by Marisa Wildeman - 2021

Camila Oliveira is a passionate flutist whose musical journey began with an early fascination for the expressive possibilities of the flute. Her teenage years were already marked by meaningful public performances, including playing the national anthem on a soccer field before a match, an experience that foreshadowed a lifelong relationship with the stage and with audiences.

Since then, Camila has performed in a wide range of musical contexts, embracing stylistic diversity as a way to expand the flute’s voice beyond its classical foundations. Formerly principal flutist of the Banda Municipal Maestro Gaspar Ricardo Sarti, she appeared in concerts throughout Brazil, collaborating with musicians from varied artistic backgrounds. Her international experiences, including performances at the Accademia Musicale Estiva di Villa Bernocchi in Italy, further shaped her musical sensitivity and broadened her interpretive palette.

During her time in the United States, Camila remained artistically active through both live and virtual performances, adapting to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. She contributed to projects such as Portland State University’s Tribute to William Grant Still and participated in interdisciplinary concert series, including Towards You, where she also explored vocal performance alongside instrumental work.

Now based in Québec, Canada, Camila performs in orchestral settings and freelance engagements, collaborating with diverse artistic communities. She performs with OVNI and she is an active member of Les flutistes de Montréal, a flute choir dedicated to both contemporary and traditional repertoire.

Chamber music occupies a central place in Camila’s artistic life. She finds in small ensembles a space for deep listening, shared intention, and nuanced musical dialogue.

Currently, Camila’s performance work focuses on exploring and amplifying compositions by women and underrecognized composers. Drawn to the richness and originality of these voices, she continues to seek meaningful ways to bring their music to the forefront, allowing performance to serve as both artistic expression and quiet advocacy.
